Quartet

We sip our tea and debate
if the internet makes the world flat,
though we agree that electric light
fails to replace the sun.

We eat our scones and compare
love stories from our youth
with all their first kiss curiosities
and how many dates before sex.

We wipe our lips and digit-list
our all-time favorite songs and movies,
and note how the count of best friends
never utilizes more than four fingers.

We sit back and breathe
in the violin duet that plays
Sunday mornings at our cafe
and wish for a viola and cello.
